Slide Board – Trolley – Hand Slots

$325.29

The Slide Board – Trolley – Hand Slots is a plastic board is used for sliding patients lying supine, from a bed to a trolley. It bridges the small gap of about 15cm (6″) between the bed to trolley.

The Board has hand slots cut into the plastic to help when carrying the Board. The hand slots should not be used for actually transferring or moving a patient.

To Use

Simply use the draw sheet to roll the patient onto their side with their back facing towards the trolley. While on their side, place the Slide Board under the draw sheet and the patient. The Board should be under the patient’s head, down to under the thighs. When the patient is returned to their back, they should have at least three quarters of their length, lying on top of the Board.

Put the trolley next to the bed and apply the brakes to the bed and the trolley. Ensure the trolley is not higher than the bed. If the trolley is a little lower than the bed this will make the transfer even easier. If possible try to move the trolley mattress over the gap between the bed and trolley before pulling the patient across. The draw sheet should be draped across the trolley and then one or more nurses should pull the draw sheet with the patient across to the trolley.

When pulling, one or two nurses should hold the sheet aligned to the patient’s hips and shoulder. If necessary, a nurse can transfer the patient’s feet and another can guide the head. However if a bed sheet is used instead of a draw sheet, then the patient’s feet will be moved at the same speed. After moving the patient across, roll the patient on their side again to remove the Slide Board.

Sometimes a large sheet can be used that will reach the far side of the trolley. This saves the nurses from leaning forward and pulling. This means they can use their own body weight to pull the sheet across.
